WHO WE ARE

Who Is The IFCO?

The International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations is an international organization of chiropractors, students, and others who support the practice of chiropractic to correct vertebral subluxations because subluxations, in and of themselves, are a detriment to the fullest expression of life in all people at all times.

MEET THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

MISSION

What are the IFCO’s Objectives?

The objectives of the Federation are to promote, protect and advance chiropractic, to assist chiropractors in any practical and legal way, and advance chiropractic and to facilitate public access to and knowledge of the services of chiropractic.

How Does the IFCO Define Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a vitalistic philosophy, science, and art which consists solely of the non-therapeutic objective of locating, analyzing, and assisting in the correction of vertebral subluxations because they are detrimental to the expression of innate intelligence.

How does the IFCO Define Vertebral Subluxation?

A vertebral subluxation is an alteration of the intervertebral relationships of one or more articulations of the spinal column or the immediate weight-bearing components of the axial skeleton, accompanied by a change in the morphology of the tissue occupying the neural canal and/or intervertebral foramina; as well as an alteration of neural function sufficient to interfere with the transmission of organizing information, considered to be homologous to the mental impulse.

VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATION

What is a Vertebral Subluxation?

A vertebral subluxation is an alteration of normal spinal position, which, by the nature of the anatomy of the spinal column, will negatively impact the delicate nervous system tissues that travel through it.

These shifts in spinal structure are quite common and occur regularly throughout a lifetime due to the many stressors we encounter in all stages of early development, childhood, and adulthood.

Stress

Stress comes in many forms, and we can each relate to how significantly it affects us.

While there is extensive research on early life stress and the damaging effects of chronic stress on health and quality of life, much of the healthcare community and public have failed to recognize how this excessive stress impacts the structural and neurological integrity of our spine and nervous system.

Brain Changes

Growing research shows how general stress negatively affects the brain and how altered spinal alignment and range of motion negatively affect the brain.

In a 2016 paper found in the journal Neural Plasticity, it was found using fMRI that adjusting vertebral subluxations altered somatosensory processing, particularly in the prefrontal cortex.

Other researchers also use fMRI to find that vertebral subluxation in the upper neck “can affect or cause neural compromise, and/or some may contribute to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow obstruction as well as arteriovenous compromise.” Of particular importance to note is that correcting the misalignment shows improved venous and cerebrospinal fluid flow.

Adaptability

If left unchecked, excessive stress accumulates and causes these spine distortions, further impairing our nervous system’s function and ability to adapt successfully to the environment, both externally and internally.

Ultimately, We can adapt to life’s many external demands and the constant demands within the body, resulting in our ability to be well.

When that ability to adapt is interfered with by vertebral subluxation, it naturally interferes with our health and quality of life.

This leads to the accelerated breakdown of our bodies, health, and function.

Correction

Chiropractic discovered over 100 years ago that these alterations in normal spinal structure do, in fact, negatively impact our health and function, that they can be corrected, and that maintaining optimal spinal structure throughout a lifetime has positive health benefits.

It’s a simple concept based on our intricate anatomy.

Like other simple concepts such as eating well, moving our bodies, having a positive attitude, and brushing our teeth, chiropractic reaps huge rewards for those who utilize it to correct and remove this serious form of neurological interference.

IFCO BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board of Directors works tirelessly to protect your right to practice and the public\’s right to access vertebral subluxation-centered chiropractic care. They come from multiple walks of life and technical approaches, but all share the same chiropractic philosophical positions and desire to see chiropractic care reach the masses.

33 PRINCIPLES OF CHIROPRACTIC

The 33 Principles of Chiropractic are chiropractic’s core foundational philosophical tenants which were published by Ralph W. Stephenson, D.C. in his 1927 text, The Chiropractic Textbook.

These principles are considered by many experts in the field to be essential for success in practice and to truly understand what chiropractic is and how to apply it.

You can get a copy of the textbook from the Delta Sigma Chi website and IFCO member, Dr. David Serio, also provided a valuable contribution to discussions of these principles in his 2018 book, 33, which can be purchased here.

The 33 Principles of Chiropractic

  1. The Major Premise – A Universal Intelligence is in all matter and continually gives to it all its properties and actions, thus maintaining it in existence.
  2. The Chiropractic Meaning of Life – The expression of this intelligence through matter is the Chiropractic meaning of life.
  3. The Union of Intelligence and Matter – Life is necessarily the union of intelligence and matter.
  4. The Triune of Life – Life is a triunity having three necessary united factors, namely: Intelligence, Force and Matter.
  5. The Perfection of the Triune – In order to have 100% Life, there must be 100% Intelligence, 100% Force, 100% Matter.
  6. The Principle of Time – There is no process that does not require time.
  7. The Amount of Intelligence in Matter – The amount of intelligence for any given amount of matter is 100%, and is always proportional to its requirements.
  8. The Function of Intelligence – The function of intelligence is to create force.
  9. The Amount of Force Created by Intelligence – The amount of force created by intelligence is always 100%.
  10. The Function of Force – The function of force is to unite intelligence and matter.
  11. The Character of Universal Forces – The forces of Universal Intelligence are manifested by physical laws; are unswerving and unadapted, and have no solicitude for the structures in which they work.
  12. Interference with Transmission of Universal Forces – There can be interference with transmission of universal forces.
  13. The Function of Matter – The function of matter is to express force.
  14. Universal Life – Force is manifested by motion in matter; all matter has motion, therefore there is universal life in all matter.
  15. No Motion without the Effort of Force – Matter can have no motion without the application of force by intelligence.
  16. Intelligence in both Organic and Inorganic Matter – Universal Intelligence gives force to both organic and inorganic matter.
  17. Cause and Effect – Every effect has a cause and every cause has effects.
  18. Evidence of Life – The signs of life are evidence of the intelligence of life.
  19. Organic Matter – The material of the body of a “living thing” is organized matter.
  20. Innate Intelligence – A “living thing” has an inborn intelligence within its body, called Innate Intelligence.
  21. The Mission of Innate Intelligence – The mission of Innate Intelligence is to maintain the material of the body of a “living thing” in active organization.
  22. The Amount of Innate intelligence – There is 100% of Innate Intelligence in every “living thing,” the requisite amount, proportional to its organization.
  23. The Function of Innate Intelligence – The function of Innate Intelligence is to adapt universal forces and matter for use in the body, so that all parts of the body will have co-ordinated action for mutual benefit.
  24. The Limits of Adaptation – Innate Intelligence adapts forces and matter for the body as long as it can do so without breaking a universal law, or Innate Intelligence is limited by the limitations of matter.
  25. The Character of Innate Forces – The forces of Innate Intelligence never injure or destroy the structures in which they work.
  26. Comparison of Universal and Innate Forces – In order to carry on the universal cycle of life, Universal forces are destructive, and Innate forces constructive, as regards structural matter.
  27. The Normality of Innate Intelligence – Innate Intelligence is always normal and its function is always normal.
  28. The Conductors of Innate Forces – The forces of Innate Intelligence operate through or over the nerve system in animal bodies.
  29. Interference with Transmission of Innate Forces – There can be interference with the transmission of Innate forces.
  30. The Causes of Dis-ease – Interference with the transmission of Innate forces causes incoordination or dis-ease.
  31. Subluxations – Interference with transmission in the body is always directly or indirectly due to subluxations in the spinal column.
  32. The Principle of Coordination – Coordination is the principle of harmonious action of all the parts of an organism, in fulfilling their offices and purposes.
  33. The Law of Demand and Supply – The Law of Demand and Supply is existent in the body in its ideal state; wherein the “clearing house,” is the brain, Innate the virtuous “banker,” brain cells “clerks,” and nerve cells “messengers.”
